Project Audion Radio Recreations – The Lone Ranger (Premier)
Scott R. McKinley appears in this episode as Tad Brewster.
Is the Lone Ranger the single most famous series in all of radio’s history? I’d take that bet. It aired an astonishing 3000 episodes over two decades, and went on to conquer television, movies, and more. Even the William Tell Overture that was appropriated as the show’s theme music is still recognizable to people who never heard the original radio dramas or watched the TV show.
The Ranger’s formative years on the air from 1933 until 1938 are basically lost to us because no recordings were made. The original scripts survive, and Project Audion has selected one from October 1934 to recreate. For the first time in nearly 90 years you’ll be able to hear this early version of the Lone Ranger and Tonto, who are not quite as we remember them. The plot and characters are very much of their time too, so this show itself is now a trip back to “those thrilling days of yesteryear.”
